The rule of thirds.
The Encounter was our first preliminary exercise of year 12. We were given a brief to work to and had to use our own creativity to further develop the situation given to us on the brief.
180 degree rule not broken
We clearly used the 180 degree rule during our production, rule of thirds is necessary as it allows movement in the shot and also maintains a balance on the screen so that the eye line of the person on the screen is 3/4 way up the screen, which denotes to the audience they are looking at something and the person is looking back at them. We also used the 180 degree rule which is one of the most important rules to follow whilst filming a piece of work. The camera cannot go 180 degrees past the persons body or it confuses the audience if the person being shot is on  the right or left of the screen. We broke this rule whilst filming and realized when we imported all the shots into i movie  This then resulted in us having to re shoot.
We used match on action very successfully and kept to the brief  everything which was required of us to do we did. The match on action had to be someone opening a door and sitting down. Match on action is an important part of continuity editing as it creates a smooth flow in the movie which you are working on.  During production we did not face many problems however we changed our shooting location twice as the lighting and back ground sound was not suitable for our theme of movie. If i were to film again i would not change anything as our location  lighting and sound was perfect for the scene we filmed.
During post production i didn't find any challenges, as the new i movie is simple and easy to use compared to the old version with which i worked with last year to edit a trailer, and was very difficult to work with. The new i movie is almost self explanatory and enjoyable to work with.
Flash back.
I think that the overall strength of our work was the  creativity as the story line was very strong and imaginative and has the use of flash backs. The story bored we created was very useful during production as we knew which order the shots had to be in and the camera angles and shots. The research we did was to find out what places were available to film in around the school and if we had to film in any of our own extra time to use the location we wanted. We used HD cameras and i macs to produced and edit our short movie. The i macs helps us pay attention to small detail when editing.
The main weakness of our work is maybe the shots as many of them are slightly shaky or tilted sue to a wonky tripod, however i do not think that there was any weakness in our creativity planning or research as everything went smoothly and to plan. We cut many of the tilted shots out of our work however when close attention to detail is paid there is a slight tilt in some of our shots.
Any overall improvements that i would make to my work would be that perhaps i would make sure our tripod is completely straight and also to film more than you need so you do not have to re shoot any scenes and have more film to work with when editing.
