An example of a good opening
This Mid shot is a very typical convention of  a BSR film , it has been shot very successfully  There is excellent attention to framing, it also instanly engages the audeince as we wonder why he is cverd in blood and why he is in a dark room, immedity raising questions which ties in with very sucessfu conventions of a British Social Realism film.

This production company logo is an important  part of an opening sequence. It is included in all hollywood and independent films and they have used titles approtiatly, especially as in the breif it sas we have to make a fi for film 4, all film 4 fims have thier procution companies at the begining of each film, this makes it meet the breif.

This close up of his face, shows very good framing. The camera control is successful at showing his emotions. It uses camrea conventions of a British Spcial Realism film that meets the mark scheme, he has alos used a differnt virty of shot which really keeps the audience interested.

In this shot, he Graphics appear on the screen and are used appropriately for the task set. The  font and style is suitable for a British Social Realism Film, they are simple and creative.

I like this shot as it is unusual, and it shows what kind of poverty he is living in that he does not have the money to dress properly, this shows the themes and situations of a British Social Realism Film amd makes the audeince think how lucky we are to ebable to have everything but some people have nothing realy emphising on the mundane realism.

This shot change is very effecting again i like this shot as it meets the mark scheme and shows a variety of shot distance, this shot is keepign to teh conventins of  a British Social Realmism film, with clear cuts and exxlent control of camera use.

The title comes in the middle of the opening sequnce after a few shots, i like this because it does not  make it look like a trailer and the grahics taht are used are appropriate for the task, as the audince of British Social Realism films are highly educated they will find grahics which conote alot about the film interesting.

Here in this shot, close attention to mise-en-scene  is paid  showing excellent creative skills. I would use this as an idea for my own opening sequence, it lets the audince make us empathise with the chacter, and portays a Brtish Social Realism narrive of someone induring everyday life struggling.
Here in this shot, editing was made apparent and we could clearing understand his emotions, i like this shot as it shows close attention to detail has been made, this helps gain the mazimum marks avalible as it is made apparnt to the audince how he feels.

An example of a not so good opening
Battered and Bruised

The mise-en-scene has not been paid much attention to, it does not engage the audience as an opening clip. This shot also untypical of a British Social Realism film as it does not use the conventions in camera work i would imporve it by either using a close up of mid shot of each chacter.

The graphics here are not appropriately set for the task, the font is too  complicated for a British Social Realism film and is not set to the task it is also non inventice perhaps putting the audince off watching the film, If i could imporve this i would use a more subtle font which connotes more about the film.

The narrative of this film is not of a British Social Realism film, if i could improve this, i would totally re wright the story and try and create a narrative that matches with the brief and produce material appropriate to the task.

Here in this shot use of editing is not apparnt and  attention to mise-en-scene is not paied. If i could imporve this shot i would take a close up of his hand playing the gituar to enage the audince and to portray a sence of passion of playing the gituar, this may then have more of a British Social Realism narrative.

Again there is no virarty of shots here, i would do an over the shoulder shot to improve this shot to gain more marks for the viraty and distance of shots, howver the camera control is good.

Variety of shot distance is not used and there is no clear story line, it does not engage  the audience into the  film,  i would  change the shot type to make it more interesting, using a viraty of shots to enage the audince to create material approriate set to the task.

Here the camera  work is very out of control which makes the  opening sequence loose marks, as the camrea control is not good. Bad camera work is not a cpnvention of a British Social Realism film and does not make it look more mundane it just reflects on the poor quality filming. If i were to film this i wopuld have control over the camera.

Here this high angle shot is the best out of all the shots in this opening sequence, it connotes the power over and uses a viarty of shot distances and the framing works well.

Here this shot it does not create enigma, making the audience want to watch on with the rest of the film, it is as if the story finishes here and does not engare with the audience, making them question what is to happen next, if i were to imrove this, i would not make theese boys turn thier back and walk off i would try and take a shot which creates mystery.
